The government of Argentine capital Buenos Aires has begun construction of the first line of its bus rapid transit (BRT) system, as part of the city's sustainable transport program.
The exclusive bus lane will run along Juan B. Justo avenue, connecting districts Liniers and Pacífico, the city's website reported. The BRT system is expected to reduce travel time on the route by 20 minutes.
The line will replace current bus routes 166 and 34 and will have 21 stops. Buses will be equipped with GPS systems, allowing passengers to track buses and estimate wait times.
The system is expected to begin operating in 2011.
